Additionally, it is a current (January 2020) release. ![]() And Big Lies in a Small Town fit nicely within my general preferences for reads: southern historical fiction with an underlying mystery to uncover/crime to resolve. I also thought it might be nice to choose a story with a female protagonist considering we’ve had a number of male protags in our line-up so far. Why I chose this book? She's strong, smart, spunky, and overcoming some incredible challenges. Some readers might not like this, but knowing how important Gena's faith is to her, I found it wonderful to see her openly celebrating it in such a manner. ![]() Gena celebrates her faith in this book by prefacing each new chapter with a bible verse, and uses tie ins to those for the characters and their plight.
